Mind-body approaches recognize the power of mind to affect healing. Clients who learn and use techniques based on mind-body dynamics often experience noticeable reduction in stress, improved capacity for relaxation, and greater resilience during (and beyond) their treatment. There are demonstrated benefits for clients who learn stress management techniques while undergoing treatment for cancer. Mind-body approaches include body/energy work and expressive arts, as well as other modalities, such as clinical hypnosis, meditation, and guided imagery — all of which promote healing.

Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is a mind-body approach to treating health issues that addresses anxiety, panic, phobias, physical pain, and stress-related issues; it can also help people prepare for surgery. Hypnosis places one in a highly relaxed state in which the conscious and subconscious aspects of mind are focused and receptive to therapeutic suggestion. The end result is a state of relaxation that helps to increase confidence, coping skills, and resiliency.

Qi Gong

This is a precursor to Traditional Chinese Medicine which incorporates slow, coordinated movements with breathing, mind calming techniques to release the Qi energy force within the body to promote healing and balance. Through these techniques, the relaxation response is stimulated thereby promoting the lymph system.
